A slice of horror
A quiet and cold late night, curled up on the couch, empty Jaffa cake packet on the floor and a warm cup of tea in your mitt. What else would make the night complete? How about a short slice of animated terror? If you like your macabre tales to put a sly grin on your face, then ‘The Hairy Hands’ is exactly what you’re looking for.
Opening on a shot of a solitary dark road, the tone is immediately set. A man drives frantically along whilst (in a pleasing nod to Hitchcock) a voice-over punctuates the air, alluding to what has happened previously. Tapping in to that dual edged rush of being intrigued and terrified, the jagged animation and stylised presentation heighten the emotion. As our driving man with his maniacal grin continues his journey, the supernatural element presents itself. The film pleasingly blends a feeling of the familiar and the new and you know things are not going to end well. It is a great mix of dark humour and horror neatly sandwiched together for your pleasure.
Produced by Carrion Films, ‘The Hairy Hands’ is one of their numerous shorts taking an old folklore tale and repackaging it in a new tantalising way. They are definitely an ‘other guy’ to keep an eye on, so delve in and take a look.
